The Plant Biotechnology Research Center (RC1) at Ghent University Global Campus encompasses various research topics within plant science, from molecular biology to applications in environmental and agricultural contexts. We aim to discover how green organisms work at the molecular level to improve human lives. Utilizing Arabidopsis thaliana and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) as model systems, our research projects focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms governing growth, development, stress responses, and immune defenses, with a particular emphasis on the role of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), employing chemical genetics. Our projects provide training opportunities across various aspects of modern plant science, including plant development, crop improvement for biotic and abiotic stress resistance, and the dynamics of plant-microbiota relationships.
